Why Private Practice?

Private practice allows me to help patients in ways that I cannot do while working in an academic institution.  I continue to work as a medical director with a hospital organization and am an adjunct professor with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Campbell University Osteopathic School of Medicine.  For over a decade, I have served a population who primarily receive Medicaid services, and I will continue to do so – but currently, Medicaid does not cover telehealth evaluations for Autism. This external private practice also helps me serve a population with private insurance out-of-network benefits and who would like to pay without insurance.  Hopefully, by showing the benefits of telehealth for evaluations, services like mine will push Medicaid to incorporate telehealth in this area.
